Iran is moving towards freedom, America is ready to help protesters, President Trump
Washington: US President Donald Trump has said that the United States is closely monitoring the ongoing protests in Iran and is ready to help Iranian protesters if necessary.
In a statement released on social media, President Trump said that Iran is moving towards freedom, a situation like no other has been seen before. He said that the Iranian people have been victims of government oppression for many years and now the reaction is coming.
President Trump had previously warned that if protesters were killed in Iran, the United States could intervene, but he clarified that this intervention would not mean sending troops into Iran.
According to the US President, protesters have taken control in some cities in Iran and the government's grip seems to be weakening.
On the other hand, anti-government protests in Iran have entered their thirteenth day. According to reports, 65 people, including 15 security personnel, have been killed in violent incidents so far.
Iranian media say security forces have arrested 100 armed men in a town near Tehran, while more than 2,500 people have been detained across the country so far.
According to authorities, internet services have been shut down in the country for the third consecutive day, severely affecting the flow of information.
