The country's external debt has decreased, there has been no increase since 2022

Governor State Bank Jamil Ahmed has announced the good news that the country's external debt has decreased and there has been no increase after 2022.

Speaking to the media after a ceremony held at the State Bank on the occasion of International Women's Business Day in Karachi, the Governor State Bank made a big revelation and said that the country's external debt has decreased and there has been no increase in Pakistan's external debt after 2022.

He said that the debt-to-GDP ratio has come down from 31 percent to 26 percent, while the debt was increasing by an average of $6.4 billion annually from 2015 to 2022.

Jamil Ahmed said that the current account will remain in deficit between 0 and 1 percent of GDP in the current fiscal year, while the current account is under control despite the increase in imports.

He said that remittances will cross the $40 billion mark this year, while remittances of $38 billion were received in the last fiscal year. The Governor of the State Bank said that the target of financing women from November 2024 to October 2025 was Rs50 billion, but Rs230 billion was released, while SME financing increased from Rs550 billion to Rs700 billion last year.
